I
became interested in photography in the spring of '98. My brother was
into it and I would play with his gear when he was home. I would bug him
to no end with questions about the gear, how it works and why you would
do this instead of that, etc, etc. By the begining of the summer my brother
and parents had suffucient evidence of my interest in photography to give
me a camera for graduation.
I started with a Canon EOS 10QD and a Canon
50mm f/1.8 lens. Both were more than sufficient for somebody who doesn't
know the difference between an f-stop and focal length. My brother would
be the poor person I drilled with questions. After several times of explaning
aperture and f-stops, shutter speeds and focal length, I began to understand
how everything worked with each other. How one piece of the puzzle set
certain parameters for the other pieces to fit. If they didn't or couldn't
fit you would either have a bad picture or no picture. The main benfit
I had when I was learning the basics was shooting with my brother. It's
like having your own PGA Pro to go with you on the course. Helping you,
sizing up the shot, and telling what your doing wrong and what you are
doing right.
